This record book is a transcription of microfilm no. C.075.30001 (C.R. 75.006) at the North Carolina State Department of Cultural Resources, Division of Archives & History, Archives & Records Section, Raleigh, NC 27611.  

This second book is a continuation of the records begun in book 1.

The hand-writing did create some problems in transcription.  Several examples of "look-alikes" are:
PALIN - PALMER         WILSON - WILCOX          CHANCY - CHANEY       SAMUEL - LAMUEL
Reffered - Relfered         ee - oo (CAROON or CAREEN?)       DANIEL - DAVID     r - s  (HARE or HASE?)

The stock marks and brands appear to have been recorded anywhere there was space available on a page regardless of date, and not necessarily in chronological order.

For indexing purposes (and to conserve search time) each page of the original document has been assigned a page number. These page numbers which appear in the left margin of the text have been underscored, and are the page numbers used to compile the index.  As slaves were usually referred to by their given name only, that name has been used in the index. (Example: "Jack" will be found in the J's.
